Ecumenical Network “Church and Peace” brings together church members, various communities, and peaceful Christian organizations from Europe and aims to promote dialogue among Christians and between different religions and serves as a catalyst for joint initiatives.
About 100 participants, members of the ecumenical network represented from thirteen European countries, have gathered in Prishtina on October 7 to 11, 2015, at an international conference with the theme: “THE FRUIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS WILL BE PEACE (Isaiah 32:17) – LIVING TOGETEHR AT THE HEART OF EUROPE”.
Present at the conference was also virtually rapporteur on Kosova at the European Parliament Ms. Ulrike Lunacek. In her opening speech, MEP Lunacek urged religious leaders to promote dialogue not only declaratively. Another noted speaker was Leonorado Emberti Gialloreti from the Community of Sant’Egidio in Rome who for many years had created close connections with political leaders of our country. In his presentation he underlined that: “The real opposite of peace is not war; it is egocentrism – personal, ethnic or collective egocentrism”.
Representatives of religious communities in their speech gave support to the interfaith dialogue and mutual respect. The KPEC President Pastor Driton Krasniqi in his speech emphasized to the fact that the majority of Kosova society are determined for the European Kosova.
When talking about peace, Pastor Krasniqi stated: “Peace has no alternative, or at least there should be no alternative to peace. Unfortunately it remains highly threatened in the world today”. “The Bible – Holy Scripture teaches us to live in peace with all men. We believe that peace is one of the main elements of a society and the primary but above all for the individual. Therefore, our churches work at the level of individuals who make up society. We work so powerfully in the sphere of man’s making peace with God. We believe that one can best contribute to peace horizontally – with one another, after knowledge of his Creator vertically”, concluded the KPEC President. At the end of his speech he gave a message to all those present that peace will serve us only if we serve peace.
The “Church and Peace” Conference continued its proceeding works where as on its program it is foreseen visits to cultural and religious sites of Kosova. The host of the conference is the Protestant church “Fellowship of the Lord’s People” in Prishtina.
