Christmas – a day of hope for humanity
Even this year Christian believers around the world are approaching the great day of the feast of Christmas. This holiday is a holiday that marks the greatest event in the history of the human race – the incarnation of God in the person of Jesus Christ.
The Bible – God’s Word, teaches us that magnificent event of birth of world’s Savior was supernatural. The supernatural was also the news that the angels shared with the man. The Gospel according to Luke teaches us that the angels of heaven were involved in proclaiming the good news. “For today in the city of David, was born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).
The Birth of the Savior – the Lord Jesus Christ – was preceded by many prophecies given many centuries ago by different prophets at different stages of history. The prophet Isaiah who lived about 700 years before Christ, gives a wonderful prophecy of how the Savior is to be. His prophecy continues: “For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given. On his shoulders will be supported empire and will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” Isaiah 9:6.
At the time of the birth of the Savior of mankind the world was subject to hopelessness. Humanity was looking for ways out of occupation. But even more difficult than the physical occupation was spiritual occupation in which the world was plunged. In the person of Jesus Christ were fulfilled all the prophecies. Jesus carried in Himself both the divine and human nature. Jesus’ mission on earth was to save the world from sin and to deliver them from bondage that sin brings.
Thus, Christmas is a big celebration in the whole world. As we understand from its name, Christmas is a time of celebrating of the Birth of Christ. The whole world celebrates the biggest act ever undertaken by God Himself – the act of liberation from the rule of sin in the life of individuals. Christmas is the act of Creator’s love for His creation. During Christmas time we remember the time when God actively expresses His compassion about the state of mankind. Jesus Christ became God’s gift to us all.
Hence, Jesus Christ today remains the most wanted person in His word, the Bible the most translated book in the world. Millions of people have embraced his gift of salvation and the act of salvation undertaken by him has become the inspiration for the world. Jesus Christ is the epicenter of world’s civilization. The God-Man Jesus is the most unifying person overcoming religious, racial and national barriers. Therefore, today, on the eve of Christmas we want to express our gratitude for the Salvation which comes to us as a gift.
By the form and the message that Christmas carries, it is clear that this holiday exceeds the size of a normal celebration. Christmas is not a given exclusive for a certain group of the people. The good news of the Savior’s birth is for all people regardless of religion, race or nationality. No one needs to feel inferior in this celebration because Jesus came for everyone. During Christmas time Christian believers express all of their solidarity with people in need. We share the gift of Salvation with all people because it is God’s desire that all men be saved. Christmas is traditionally celebrated around the globe as the largest celebration.
Christmas message is a message of hope. The message of the angels shared 2000 years ago, resounds even today for all of us. At Christmas time once again we are reminded that there is hope because Jesus was born and He is alive.
It is with this message that I use this opportunity in my name and on behalf of the Kosova Protestant Evangelical Church cordially wish you all MERRY CHRISTMAS!
