What is IDP for Kosova?
January 31st of every year marks the International Day of Prayer and Fasting (IDPF) for Kosova. It was year 1999 when a small body of Kosovar believers over took the initiative to call on brethren around the world to join hands in intercessory prayer & fasting for Kosova. The small church had also written to the Kosova Government reminding them how prosperous nations during their tough times of history had learned to call upon the Lord for mercy. The Kosova Public TV station in exile gave quite a bit of space to this event.
1000’s of emails were sent out for couple of months, until 24th of March 1999 when NATO bombs starting falling on the ground as Serbian troops began the campaign of ethnic cleansing. Emails had reached 1000’s of people and churches started organizing prayer events for Kosova. That was our last communication with the international community of brethren as straight after emails were sent out; lines of communication were cut off.
God gave us a Word from 2 Chronicles 7:14 that “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Those days in 1999 were very difficult days as Kosova was preparing for an inevitable war. It is widely known that the suffering of the people of Kosova was indeed of biblical proportions.
IDPF for Kosova is a 24 h day of prayer and fasting for the nation of Kosova. It is a time of intercession by God’s nation for the people of Kosova.
We have come a long way from 1999 that saw this nation in war as many lives were lost and families devastated as death and destruction was the norm of the day. As war was about to break out in Kosovo, the body of Christ gathered together in prayer and fasting for Kosovo. Back in 1999 we were praying to God for His justice to come and His peace to be restored in Kosovo. We also called on God’s protection for His church and for His provision for the poor people of Kosova.
Since 1999, every single year believers of the Kosovar church have joined to pray in one accord for various prayer requests. Every year those same prayer requests were shared with our brethren and prayer partners throughout the globe.
Indeed God has heard our prayers and your prayers. Kosovo is not the same again. As bad as situation may look at times, it has never been as good ever before now.
How to get involved?
Since 1999 we have continued every year to call on God for his grace and mercy for the nation of Kosova. While in 1999 our only prayer request was for God to stop the war, in the following years God gave us different other prayer requests. All such requests were shared with entire Kosovar church body as well as with the global church.
We believe in the priesthood of all believers. Therefore, all those who once have made a covenant with God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, are eligible to go before the very throne of God and ask for his grace and mercy for Kosova.
Therefore, not matter where you are and what church you attend, this is the time for you to lift before God the nation of Kosova.
Some of the prayer points
Over years our prayer request have been grouped into four main categories, but not limited to those. Below are some of them:
1. Evangelization of Kosova
– For the people of Kosova to turn to God and to forsake their old sinful way of living;
– That the church will gain in influence amongst the families of the nation.
2. Protections from Persecution
– For the physical protection of all those believers who have made a covenant with God through Jesus Christ;
– For boldness of all believers to remain steadfast in their walk of faith.
3. Political Situation
– For the Government of Kosova: for the to be elected President, Prime Minister, and Speaker of the Parliament;
– For Governmental Officials so they have the fear of God in their hearts as they take the step to lead this country;
– For peace between ethnicities in Kosova and for God’s peace to rule between relations of Kosova and Serbia.
4. Economical Situation
– For God’s provision for all those members of many families who spend their month with about 30.00 USD;
– For corruption to be torn down at any and all levels of governance;
– For new jobs to open in Kosova.
We thank you for taking the time to read this and for joining us on this day to pray for this nation so that we can become more receptive to the leading of God and move with confidence to seeing His will become a reality in the nation.
